    Poor quality fabric.

Backpack looks good but for CHF100 Made in Indonesia, it's poor. Thin fabric. Not waterproof. Base of bag not strong, not solid. Bag too long in length for a backpack. In 2025 it's illegal in 95% of the world, due to knife crime, to carry a Victorinox knife. Why then does this backpack have a secret compartment on the right back strap, specifically designed as a Knife Pouch. This is unthoughtful and not professional of whoever designed this. Victorinox needs to remove this pouch urgently because this could be used to secretly carry illegally a knife.

Good, but not quite as good as it’s predecessor.

Got this to replace the same model I bought about 10 years ago. Old one still serviceable, but starting to fade and look a bit tired. Use it for travel and light hiking. Also as a man-purse sometimes. Plusses: -No more mesh water bottle pockets on both sides. Only ever used one, and the elastic band lost its elasticity after a few years so bottle fell out regularly. New bag has only one, not mesh; hope elastic has greater lifespan. More generally useful for small items that might otherwise poke through mesh. -Better grab handle, thicker and more comfortable, shorter so less likely to catch on things. -Added second full-height zippered compartment very helpful for keeping larger items more easily organized and accessible. -Better key clip design. Old one allowed keys to fall off easily. Also longer leash to keep them secure in pocket. -Better knife pocket. Old one was inside and so loose it was useless for anything. Suggestion for Victorinox—make an air traveler’s “knife” with either no blade, or one that can be easily removed so it isn’t confiscated by security. -Like the extra dongles on the zipper pulls, easier to find and use. Minuses: -Prefer old design with upper and lower outer pockets. Easier to keep smaller items organized and easily accessible during travel. -Outer pocket has no inner divisions or slots. Also, zipper under flap is harder to get to quickly. -Needs more and better slots and pockets in the area where the name tag is. Perhaps an un-zippered pocket behind the mesh one like the old bag. And a second zipper pocket on the back of the opening flap of the compartment. -Prefer the “rip-stop” style lighter material that made up much of the body of the older bag. It was more supple, but there was enough of the stiffer “Cordura” style material to keep its shape. A superior design combination. Less stiff and a more luxurious appearance and feel. Lasted just fine on my ten year old bag. -New strap adjustment is confusing. The little secondary clip for the excess cannot travel far enough along the strap to be truly useful (at least when adjusted for my average size). I am left with a big hanging loop which will catch on things. Not sure this is better than a long dangling strap end. May unhook the clip and let it hang as did the old one. In general, I think the straps are just too long. Would have a luggage shop cut and re-hem them if it wouldn’t void the warranty. In general, a very good multi-purpose daily backpack. But miss the softer, more supple, and luxurious feel of my older Altmont. The stiffer feel is too much like cheaper bags offered by Columbia, Jansport, and many others. Also, miss the extra outer pocket. Will have to wait and see if the rubberized bottom offers any real improvement over the heavy fabric of the older model—perhaps water proof?
